Becker's Nevus
Share |

Becker’s nevus (also known as ‘pigmented hairy epidermal nevus’ or ‘nevus spilus tardus’) is a relatively common solitary skin lesion. This usually occurs in males, first appearing during the teen years. The most common part of the body this develops is on the shoulder, chest, or upper back.

When a Becker’s nevus first appears, it appears as a brown flat patch expanding to about the size of a hand or sometimes larger. The outline is well defined and may be irregular in shape. After a few years of appearing, dark coarse hair grows in the lesion. Sometimes the color may fade as one gets older, though some dark color and hair persist for life.

Since this condition is benign, no treatment is necessary. However for cosmetic appearance, different lasers have been used with varying success. Also some people have used tattoos to hide the area.
