The mission of the osteopathic dermatology training program is to provide residents with comprehensive structured cognitive and clinical education that will enable them to become competent, proficient and professional osteopathic dermatologists. 

The AOCD currently has 32 dermatology residency programs, 5 Mohs fellowships, 2 dermatopathology fellowships, and 1 pediatric dermatology fellowship. Successful completion of a residency program is required for specialty board certification.

The objectives of a residency program in dermatology, which is 36 months in length, are to provide training which integrates the seven core competencies of osteopathic medicine in the teaching of basic medical sciences and clinical medicine in an orderly, progressive, and academic manner from a defined hospital department/ division of dermatology.

  1. Osteopathic Philosophy and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine
  2. Medical Knowledge and Its Application Into Osteopathic Medical Practice
  3. Osteopathic Patient Care
  4. Interpersonal and Communication Skills in Osteopathic Medical Practice
  5. Professionalism in Osteopathic Medical Practice
  6. Osteopathic Medical Practice Based Learning and Improvement
  7. System-Based Osteopathic Medical Practice
