Alexander Miller, MD

Dr. Alexander Miller graduated from the UC Irvine medical school six months early, in December of 1978, after which he completed six months of an interim pathology residency. He then completed an internship in internal medicine, followed by residency in dermatology at UC Irvine.

After concluding residency training, Dr. Miller started in a solo private practice in Yorba Linda, CA and also taught dermatology residents, first at the Long Beach VA Hospital dermatology section, and subsequently, at UC Irvine, where he presently serves as a volunteer attending physician and holds the rank of Clinical Professor of Dermatology.

Dr. Miller has maintained an active involvement in teaching both residents and practicing physicians in a variety of venues, including national and international conferences. He has also been president of the California state dermatology society, CalDerm, and of the American Society for Mohs Surgery (ASMS). He is active on a variety of AAD, ASDS, ASMS and CalDerm committees. He is also the Southern California dermatology representative to Noridian, a Medicare Administrative Contractor. Until recently, Dr. Miller was chair of the Dermatology Contractor Advisory Committee. As the AAD Advisor to the AMA-CPT Editorial Panel, he is formatively engaged in the genesis and evolution of CPT codes that particularly affect dermatology.

This year, Dr. Miller was elected to the AAD Board of Directors. He will commence his Director term in March of 2019. In summary, he takes care of patients in his solo medical dermatology, Mohs surgery and reconstruction private practice, teaches in a variety of venues, and advocates for the specialty of dermatology on a variety of committees.

 

Billing and Coding Update

Objectives:

  1. Implement new biopsy coding definitions and coding structure for 2019
  2. Use proper criteria for .25 modifier selection
  3. Recognize common coding snafus and avoid them

Needs: 

  1. Legislative, regulatory, or organizational changes effecting patient care
